SSH, which is an abbreviation for Secure Shell, is a network protocol used to transfer encoded info between a client and a website hosting server, making it impossible for unauthorized parties to intercept any info. Many tech-savvy clients favor SSH mainly because of the enhanced level of security. The connection is made and the commands are delivered using a command line. The available options depend on the type of Internet hosting service - on a shared server, for instance, files can be moved or deleted, databases can be imported and exported, and archives could be created or unpacked. On a virtual or a dedicated server, the options are considerably more - the web server and the database server can be started/stopped/rebooted, server-side software may be installed and a lot more. These things aren't possible on a shared server, for the reason that full root access is required and all the other clients on that server would be affected. Although SSH is employed primarily with UNIX-like Operating Systems, there are SSH clients for other OSs as well - Windows, Mac OS, and so on.

SSH Telnet in Web Hosting

In case you have a web hosting account with our company and you want to handle your content remotely using SSH, you can receive SSH access to the account via your Hepsia Control Panel. If your plan does not include this feature by default, you can easily add it with several mouse clicks through the Upgrades menu. In the SSH section of the Control Panel, you shall see the host, the port number and the username that you should use when you connect to the account. You may also choose what password you would like to use, as it doesn't have to be the same as the one for the account. We have prepared a number of Help articles where you can easily find all the commands you will be able to use with a shared hosting plan, along with examples of how they're used. Furthermore, if SSH access is allowed for your account, you'll be able to establish a Secure FTP (SFTP) connection through a standard client like FileZilla, for instance.

SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Hosting

SSH access is included by default with some of our semi-dedicated server solutions, while with others you can add it via the hosting CP if necessary - even only for the current month. In either case, you could activate and de-activate the function with a single mouse click via the SSH section of the CP. In the same location, you will discover the server name, the port number and the username required to connect to our platform. You will also find a box in which you can type the password that you would like to use, since it does not have to be the same as the one you use to log into the CP. For better security, you may also change it as frequently as you want. A complete list of the commands which can be performed within a semi-dedicated account is available in our Knowledge Base, along with the syntax and a number of examples. An extra feature after SSH access is activated will be the ability to connect to your hosting space via SFTP using any FTP client that supports this type of connections.
